Book Cover Redesign: Vintage
Task: Choose a book cover from the “Midcentury Modern” period of design. Refurbish the cover to give the book a more contemporary look.
Concept: I sought to give the book Painting Toward Architecture, originially published in 1948, a contemporary feel while remaining true to its midcentury modern sensibility.
The art on the cover was created utilizing my own photograph of a sculpture by David Cerulli on Lehigh University’s Campus,.
Book Cover Redesign: Modern
Task: Redesign a book cover of your choosing that you thought could have been better.
Concept: I chose to redesign the cover for my father’s book, The Girl in The Torch. My father felt the original book cover was too childish, so I created a cover that is more mature to draw in an older audience, while still conveying the story of an immigrant girl coming of age in New York City at the turn of the 20th century.
I also utilized my own photographs for the art on this cover. I photographed by roommate, who, like the main character in the story, has red hair.
